Zucchini Drive’s Marcus Graap and Tom De Geeter have a knack for cooking up surprising music from unlikely ingredients. From the onset of their collaboration in 2003, the pair tackled the challenge of melding the lo-fi acoustic sounds of De Geeter’s primary project, Cavemen Speak and the buoyant electronic landscapes of Graap’s Stacs of Stamina. Perhaps the group’s energy was evoked by this sonic dichotomy, or perhaps by the sheer distance between the two, (Swedish Graap and Belgian De Geeter did much of their work remotely, meeting sporadically in London, Paris, Brussels and in between). No matter the cause, Zucchini Drive emerged as an project of which change seemed be the only constant.

By 2006, strengthened by touring and the release of albums The World After 4/02, and Gunporn, Graap and De Geeter signed to 2nd Rec (Europe) & Hue (Japan) for the release of Being Kurtwood. This epic record featured contributions from Alias & Sole (Anticon), Styrofoam & B. Fleischmann (Morr), Markus Acher (The Notwist, Lali Puna, 13& God), Grand Buffet, Giardini di Mirò, Bleubird, and more. In true fashion, the Zucchini brothers felt the itch to stir up the mix, and managed to slap together this diverse yet cohesive collection.  This feat was followed by their more centered project, “Goodyear Television Playhouse,” which included a shorter, though similarly diverse roster of artists, including Radical Face, Nomad, and KaeoFLUX.

You can further explore the tapestry of the Zucchini Drive family through their 2009 DVD release, Holiday Road, which examines their collaborative efforts spanning from American indie folk to European hip hop and beyond. And of course, please enjoy their latest efforts with Marathon Of Dope.
